ROON

by Eric McKenna

Back in 2003 I was introduced to a new customer. A local cat who had this funny way of meeting up with me to look at guitars. We would meet up at various parking lots around the Greentree area. And everytime – EVERYTIME – it would rain! Whether we sat on the tailgate of my Tahoe and talked for a few hours or we just met, did our guitar deal, and went on our way – there was just something this cat named ‘Roon’.

During one of our transactions, he handed me a few CD’s of his material. At that time – I was yearning to hear something ‘different’ – and that was just indeed what Roon had handed me.

When I moved into he BSG offices in late 2003 – who was the first guy there? Roon. And ever since then, he has become not only a wonderful customer but a tremendous supporter and promoter of BSG. And most importantly – one of my dearest friends.

As with life, Roon and I are pretty different. We come at life from completely different directions – yet as with all great friends, we have always found ‘common ground’ and in that common ground we have developed great chemistry. He has been there with advice on design and direction as well as providing insight on his observations on the music industry and what seems to ‘work’ and what seems not to work.

It was obvious to me that Roon is an accomplished musician and songwriter. And yet – as with so many, many greats – their music has not touched enough people yet. His music deserves such a broader audience. And it’s my hope that he gets it.

One of Roon’s contributions to BSG was video. Roon suggested to me that video would be a medium in which was becoming cost effective as well as dynamic. He made the comment to me that he though my ’style’ of communcation and my background with group presentations would come across great in the video medium. So, I took him up on that. Back in the Fall of 2004, Roon coordinated the first BSG DVD presentation. It was filmed by two of his friends, Dave and Josh and in one very long day, with the help of Nick Catanese, Dave Bishop, Mike Bell and my wife Krissy – Roon and his crew created our first DVD! The experience was the launching pad for so much Boogie Street video material since then. It’s almost scary!

Our friendship is one based on mutual respect and it’s one of those friendships where I just know that if there is anything I need – Roon is one of those go-to guys. Whether it has been heavy inventory issues, deliveries, music for our productions – you name it, Roon has been there.

He is a ‘mainstay’ of Boogie Street and a significant ‘founding member’ of the Boogie Street family. No question about that.
