BSG Exclusive! Paul Stanley PS1900 Cracked Mirror Proto #1

So, last year, I asked myself this question. How many KISS fans and Paul Stanley fans would love to acquire a PS2000 Cracked Mirror KISS Stage Guitar. The Problem is that ‘Street’ price on these guitars tend to be between 7 and 8 THOUSAND USD! So, there is the problem. Around the same time I was contemplating this potential idea, Rudy and Nick at Washburn were working hard to put together an instructional video on the making of Paul’s cracked mirror Washburn. They had the idea that the Indonesian factory had come so far that maybe, just maybe, they could create a really high quality cracked mirror guitar. And – they did. They really did it. So, Nick Ellingworth at Washburn put together the PS1800CM. A cracked mirror version of the standard import PS1800. A VERY high quality guitar at an amazing price point. There will be some of these guitars available to all Washburn dealers. And BSG may even had a few in stock as well. Who knows. However… This is where I come into the picture. Just as I did with the PS8500 BSG Preacher guitar – we see the opportunity to take these fine import projects and take them up notch or two….or three. Instead of taking the PS1800 cracked mirror guitar up a notch, I set out to make a different guitar. As a lifelong Paul Stanley fan, I’ve always have had an interest in Paul’s guitars. I’ve owned many of the versions over the years and I have some personal feelings about trim and specs. When I reviewed the specs and cosmetics of Paul’s cracked mirror Warlock, Iceman and PS2000, ideas began to flow. I stared at many pictures of these three guitars for about 3 weeks. I had them spread out on my design table at the Boogie Street office. Usually, I will bounce ideas off of Jim Stuart and/or Fred Kowalo. Well it just so happened that Jim was out on business and Fred was touring with Megadeth. I was ‘truly’ on this one – myself. And I have to admit, I was diggin’ it. Ultimately, what I decided to present to Paul here was to try not to replicate the PS2000 Cracked Mirror. That guitar stands on it’s own. Mirror, white binding, chrome hardware, chrome covered humbuckers, Grovers with bean knobs. For the PS1900 Cracked Mirror guitar(s) I decided to take some of the trim and cosmetics of the Warlock and Iceman and ‘marry’ them with the PS2000. As I worked with Nick, almost daily, on the specs, I really got excited on this project. Just a couple of the differences I wanted to incorporate into this PS1900 guitar was 1st, black binding. The ‘white’ binding has been done – to death. Plus, often the white will ‘turn’ yellow or ‘age’ to cream. Black is black. Plus, I believe the black binding works better around body as it meshes up against the cracked glass mirror. We used Paul’s split block fingerboard inlay but unlike the PS1800, I used ebony instead of rosewood and unlike the PS2000, I started the inlay on the 1st fret. By doing this, I believe it gives the guitar a slightly more muscular look as the body, neck and headstock are bound in black. I also wanted to do the PS1900 in two forms. A familar ‘chrome’ hardware version but more importantly, I wanted to do a gold hardware version. Something which has not been done. I also opted for black open coil Seymour Duncan JB/59 humbucker set with gold surrounds and chrome surrounds to match the hardware. I’ve always felt that the lines on the PS2000 body shape lend themselves to Grover tuners with Keystone buttons as opposed to the standard ‘Bean’ buttons. There are sharp lines and ‘cuts’ in the PS2000 body shape and the Keystone tuner buttons are a better match. The ‘flow’ better. Also, because the headstock is bound in black, the Keystone buttons also contribute to a more original, more muscular look to the headstock. Finally, instead of using the standard high gloss black paint on the sides and back we put together a medium/dark mettalic gray color which has some gold set into the paint. It’s just awesome!! The guitar features a mahogany body and mahogany neck – just like the PS2000. It’s a “REAL” guitar! It feels and plays like the PS2000. So, pictured below is the gold hardware PS1900 cracked mirror. The chrome version is due at BSG in a few days. These are not the final photos…just some quick ones I shot today at the ‘old’ BSG office with Freddy K. We are just about moved out and into our new space so this guitar will probably be the final guitar we shoot at our old facility. Kind of an end of an era. Anyway – that is the detailed scoop. Hope ya dig it! And if ya don’t…well… I think we will all still be OK!!
Thanks for reading and Hey, KISS ARMY! Help me spread this around, will ya my friends? Shoot this link around to any other KISS Army member you might think would dig this! Keep Rockin’! . |
Another HIGH GLOSS Paul Stanley PS5 Preacher!

Below is my text from the post last week on the arrival of a HIGH GLOSS Paul Stanley PS5 guitar. Well – I got another today! Same specs except black hardware. INCREDIBLE!!! Let’s find this monster a home! Contact me!! Back about a year ago I proposed the idea of the USA PS5 Preacher to Paul. The idea was with the spiraling cost of Korean guitar construction and the inability for the Indonesian facility (at that time) to delivery another PS8500 Preacher run, to build a USA Custom Shop Preacher guitar, fully spec’d out in a fashion that Paul is known for and BSG is known for and at the same time try to have the guitar hit the ’street’ with a price between $2000 and $2300. We accomplished this feat with the Oil Finished PS5 guitars. Terry Atkins and his crew in the Chicago Custom Shop made my idea a reality. We have sold many, many oil finsihed PS5 guitars. And BSG presented Paul one of the first we did. His response was very positive which helped us propel the project forward. Terry knows me well and he thought he would throw me a curveball or two so he did a few PS5 guitars in solid colors. So, we took delivery on some Bright White and Racing Red PS5 Preachers! Exploding colors with a traditional High Gloss finish. The cool thing was the upcharge to the ’street price’ was only between $200 and $300 additional! Amazing!! Today, Terry sent me what I thought was another Oil Finished PS5 with Custom Ordered Plain Covered Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbuckers. And indeed..that is what I received today, however – instead of Oil Finish, Terry had Washburn’s paint guru Chewy do this one up with High Gloss Lacquer! What a cool, cool twist. The result – a really exceptional guitar! Remember – the PS5 USA Preacher guitars are exclusive to BSG and feature top end specs found on ‘Stock’ USA Preacher guitars and a few extra high end specs thrown in! This includes ebony fretboards, Mother of Pearl block inlay, maple set-in neck, mahogany body back, carved mahogany body top, preacher headstock with the PS9200 ‘Art Deco’ inlay, Grover tuners w/Keystone Buttons, TonePros bridge and a whole lot more! So check out his HIGH GLOSS PS5 USA Custom Shop done up in Natural…

BSG’s New Worldwide HQ Office gets prepped!

After 5 years and 6 months at our current office location in the wooded, Pittsburgh suburb of Rosslyn Farms, BSG is moving. The new office for the worldwide headquarters of BSG is really our bunker, deep in the bowels of a nondescript building in Mt. Lebanon, PA. Seriously, it’s a wonderful new, very private and secure location. This office is a tad smaller than our Rosslyn Farms office however it’s layout is awesome. I’ve got painters in getting the walls ready, Verizon will have our FIOS phone/internet/tv installed next week and the relocation of all BSG assets will begin this weekend. It’s hard to believe we have been in our current office for over 5 years. What a great time it’s been! But it’s time for a change. And it has begun…

BRIGHT WHITE Paul Stanley PS800 KISS Stage Guitars!
Posted on: September 16, 2009, 6:03 pm by Eric McKenna - Filed under BSG NEWS, FEATURED GUITAR
|
By Eric McKenna When Paul returned to Washburn in the summer of 2006, he began working on a new Signature KISS Stage guitar for himself. This guitar was dubbed the PS800. The demand for Paul and Washburn to reintroduce the PS2000 in a 10th Anniversary Edition was strong so Paul put the PS800 projects on hold for a bit. BSG sold the very 1st PS800 guitar and only a handful of PS800 USA Customs were made by Washburn/Chicago. When I was at Washburn’s Chicago facility a few month ago, I was walking and talking with Custom Shop Director Terry Atkins. I noticed about 6 or so PS800 bodies which were cut and stacked. I bought them…immediately. I had Terry and his crew finish these guitars in Washburn’s BRIGHT WHITE finish, expertly applied by Chewy. The 1st of these guitars has arrived into BSG…and it’s stunning! This piece has been acquired by a BSG Family member. However, we do have a few more coming. Contact me at 412-716-3150 if you would to reserve these last PS800 guitars for 2009.
Thanks so much for all the continued support and for all interest!! . |

Well, finally I can discuss Paul Stanley’s new Washburn V Guitar! Paul has released this photo today showing his new costume for the upcoming tour as well as displaying his new Washburn Signature ‘V’ Guitar. Paul took some inspiration from his 70’s black ‘V’ with the mirror pickguard and then put a few small twists in there such as the very, very cool reverse headstock. Trust me – this guitar is SLAMMIN’! Boogie Street is bringing the first 10 of these USA customs to market. You bet we are! And Paul has given me the OK to make some double pickup versions of this guitar as well! This is going to be AWESOME!! Get ready my friends! Boogie Street Guitars will be leading the way once again with Paul Stanley’s custom guitars with Washburn!! . |
